Regrouting for Dunoon homes and businesses

The process

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The job generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Regrouting in Dunoon

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you have a grout colour that no longer suits the room and cracked grout along the bath or tray, we can put it right, on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and wet rooms alike.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Dunoon and everywhere else we cover.

Dunoon homes and their sealant

Dunoon is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Dunoon has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

Managing a site like Dunoon Primary School And Janitor's House? Then we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. If you let a flat or house near Inverkip station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Dunoon: your questions answered

Do you work in hotels near Dunoon?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

I let a flat near Inverkip station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.

Do I have to be there?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. We will check the other tiled areas as well and tell you if anything else needs attention.

Where do you work from?

Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Will it make a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Yes, in most cases. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and wouldn’t keep water out.

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We check the tiles before regrouting.

Kitchen splashbacks

Kitchen grout collects grease and food splashes. Once it’s stained, new grout is often the only fix.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

Aftercare tips

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Stick to that time, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

Signs you need regrouting in Dunoon

A poor original job is a common cause. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.

The problems people generally mention when they call are:

  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

For an older house near a landmark such as St John’s Church (Dunoon), walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What to look for in a quote

  • How long to leave it before use
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant

Our hiring checklist

What affects the cost of regrouting

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • The rough size of the job
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. Whenever you’re ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
