Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we are fully insured.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we will quote it together.
Regrouting around Rhu
Rhu is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
In the older streets around Rhu Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. For landlords with property near Helensburgh Upper station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

What we are called out for in Rhu
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has usually got into the grout.
Common reasons people contact us are:
- Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Good tiles let down by tired grout

What the job involves on each surface
Shower walls
Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We rake it out and regrout and renew the silicone at the edges.
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.
Keeping the joints in good condition
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. We suggest:
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.
Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.
The process
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Rhu depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
Before we arrive
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
How to get a quote

Advice
What affects the cost of regrouting
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- When we can work, for business premises
- Any mould that needs treating
- The number and length of the joints
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
Asking for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.

For landlords and businesses
We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote.
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.
DIY versus a professional finish
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
