New build mastic for Rhu homes and businesses

What new build mastic looks like in Rhu

Rhu is within about 1 mile of the coast. Plot mastic on new homes near the coast takes more weather than it would inland, so any gaps are best picked up early. Timber frame is common in newer Scottish homes, and as the frame dries and settles, skirting and sealant joints can open up.

For new homes near Helensburgh Upper station, it’s worth checking the sealant early, while snags are still fresh. In and around Rhu, as anywhere, good new build mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

About our new build mastic in Rhu

If your new home has a leaking shower seal, open skirting joints or untidy sealant, we can help. If you’re still within the builder’s snagging or warranty period, tell them first. If you have sealant applied over dusty or wet surfaces and cracked caulk along new skirting, we can help, whatever the surface.

For a place like Rhu, the journey and access are planned in advance. Inside work goes ahead in any weather; outside mastic needs a dry day.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Watch for new gaps as the house dries out
  • Raise failed sealant with the developer while you are covered
  • Do not wait for the house to settle if water is getting through
  • Open a window or run the fan after bathing

Keep the bathroom ventilated, especially in the first year. Run the fan or open a window after bathing so moisture does not sit on the sealant.

Leave a failed new-build seal and water can reach the floor and the ceiling below. Early resealing keeps the job small and the new finishes intact.

Questions from Rhu

I let a flat near Helensburgh Upper station. Can you help?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Is Rhu in your area for new build mastic?

Yes, Rhu is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.

Where are you based?

We are a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

How long does new build mastic take?

As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we’ll say how long yours will take.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured for every job we do.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.

Do the sealants smell?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

What the job involves on each surface

Kitchens

Sink joints are wet all the time. A kitchen sealant goes in there suited to the job.

Bathrooms and en suites

En suite showers are a common source of leaks into the room below. Resealing properly keeps water where it belongs.

What we cannot put right

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Leaking fittings rather than failed sealant
  • Cracking that points to a structural problem
  • Your warranty claim itself, which is between you and the builder

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Landlord and commercial work in Rhu

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can go on one quote, and we are fully insured.

What we do, step by step

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of plots. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. Each joint is checked for movement before work begins.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the joints cleaned.
  3. Joints are dried and primed where the product calls for it.
  4. New sealant goes in, with baths filled first so they’re at their heaviest.
  5. The finished joints are checked and the cure times given.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

How we quote for new build mastic

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The size of the job

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Where the property is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

For new build mastic in Rhu, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and we’ll agree the price before any work begins.
