Strone homes and their sealant
Strone is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
For landlords with property near Gourock station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. For an older house near a landmark such as Strone Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. Schools such as Dunoon Grammar School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
Strone is about 6 miles north-west of Greenock, in Argyll and Bute. Regrouting for homes and businesses in Strone
When grout stays dark however much you clean it, the stain is often in the grout itself. New grout is the fix that lasts, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. Common call-outs are for old grout in a dated colour and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across bathroom wall tiles, bathroom floors and tiled floors.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Strone and across Argyll and Bute.

When something else is needed
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Loose tiles, which need refixing first
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Strone questions
Do you work for landlords with property near Gourock station?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Is Strone within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.
Is it messy?
Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and we clear up when we are done.
Do you reseal at the same time?
Usually, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.
Which products do you use?
The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?
Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Grout on its own will not fix that and we will say so before going ahead.
Is it worth trying it myself?
It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
Why act early in Strone
With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

How the job changes by surface
Corners and edges
Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

How we quote for regrouting
Your quote is based on your job. We look at:
- The amount of work
- When we can work, for business premises
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
Doing several joints on one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. We’ll send you a clear quote for the lot.
Helping us quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we will take it from there.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. Several properties can go on one quote.
We also work for property managers and facilities teams. Several sites can be quoted together, and we’re fully insured.
What we do, step by step
On the day, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before we start. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a place like Strone, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
- Mention any tricky access
Getting a quote
We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job and send photos if you have them.
Advice
Keeping the joints in good condition
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.
Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone is not enough, so it’s worth acting early.
