Bathroom resealing in Strone

A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. If you have a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and mouldy sealant that has gone black, we can help, on shower trays & enclosures, baths and kitchen worktops & upstands alike.

In and around a place like Strone, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

What we’re called out for in Strone

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation keep the silicone damp for hours, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal

Rented homes near Gourock station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Questions to ask before you book

Strone questions

Do you cover smaller places like Strone?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Gourock station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will send you a clear quote.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No. Fresh silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so it peels away and hides mould and water. We always take the old sealant out completely.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do. We can talk about working times when we quote.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Strone?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we will talk you through it.

What colours of sealant can you use?

You’re not limited to white: clear, white and colours chosen to suit the room. We’ll talk it through when we quote.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured for every job we do.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Strone

Strone is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

If you look after a building such as Dunoon Grammar School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Homes close to Strone Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Strone

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Where the property is

To get a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

Aftercare tips

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

The process

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. It usually takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Outside jobs in Strone need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Related advice

What happens if it’s left?

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, and that’s a far bigger job than a reseal. In a place like Strone, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
