Bathroom resealing for Rhu homes and businesses

Rhu homes and their sealant

Rhu is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Rhu. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

Homes close to Rhu Parish Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you look after a building such as Lomond School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Helensburgh Upper station? Then mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Rhu

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through and into the wall or floor. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on sinks & splashbacks, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Rhu work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Honest limits

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Rhu: your questions answered

Do you take on hotel work around Rhu?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. Rooms can be done a few at a time, so the building stays open.

I let a flat near Helensburgh Upper station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear quote.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. Fresh silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old sealant comes out first.

How much does bathroom resealing cost in Rhu?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You will get a clear quote before work begins.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

Do I have to be there?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

What colours of sealant can you use?

Most people choose white or clear, but other colours can be used to suit tiles and worktops. Let us know your preference when you ask for a quote.

How the visit works

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Outdoor work around Rhu depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Why act early in Rhu

Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes, as long as the fittings themselves are sound. If something else is wrong, we’ll tell you. In an older home around Rhu, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Why Rhu customers choose us

  • We never seal over old sealant
  • Rated 4.9 stars on Google
  • Colour picked to suit the job
  • More than 20 years in sealant work

Take a look at our cost guide or customer reviews.

Should I try it myself first?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Water getting under the rim of an inset sink can soak the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows, so the line doesn’t stand out.

What affects the quote in Rhu

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The product the joint needs
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and send you a clear quote before we start.

Asking for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs

If you’re in Rhu and need bathroom resealing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and you’ll get a clear quote before we start.
