When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)
  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Bathroom resealing in Tom nan Ragh

With over 20 years in the trade, we reseal baths, showers and kitchens in homes across Tom nan Ragh. We are fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on sinks & splashbacks, shower trays & enclosures and baths, and the jobs we see most are splits where the tray meets the wall and smears of silicone across the tiles.

A bathroom in a place like Tom nan Ragh gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Tom nan Ragh and across Argyll and Bute.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tom nan Ragh

Tired sealant isn’t a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes. If something else is wrong, we’ll tell you. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear price before we start.

Why book with us

  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows
  • Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels
  • Sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive in wet areas

See our cost guide or what customers say.

When to call us in Tom nan Ragh

Sealant laid on a damp, dusty or greasy joint never bonds properly. Traces of soap, bath oil and old sealant stop it gripping, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead

If you live in an older home near St Munn's Parish Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing

Choosing a sealant specialist

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Common questions in Tom nan Ragh

Will you come out to Tom nan Ragh?

Yes, Tom nan Ragh is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is Tom nan Ragh in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Tom nan Ragh is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

What does bathroom resealing cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. For a quick quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

Do I have to be there?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses, and we’re fully insured.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Looking after new joints is easy:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

How it works

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work usually takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. For a place like Tom nan Ragh, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
