Gutter sealing for Strone homes and businesses

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Strone

It’s easy to live with a dripping gutter joint, but the water lands on the same spot every time it rains. Sealing it is quick while the gutter is still sound. We work on uPVC fascias, garage door frames and gutter end caps, and the jobs we see most are damp patches inside below a leaking gutter and stop ends leaking at the end of a run.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Strone and across Argyll and Bute.

For landlords and businesses

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Surface by surface

uPVC fascias

Fascia board joints can open up. They’re sealed tidily in a suitable colour.

Soffit joints

Gaps at soffit joints can let in draughts and insects. We close them with a suitable sealant.

Strone: your questions answered

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Strone any different?

Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

Do you work for landlords with property near Gourock station?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can go on one quote. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

When is the sealant fully cured?

That depends on the sealant used, so follow the cure time we give you when we finish.

How do I get a quote for gutter sealing in Strone?

The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

How long will you be here?

A typical job takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including the preparation. We will confirm how long when we quote.

Do you work on high-level gutters?

Low gutters are simple to reach. If it’s higher up, let us know and we will confirm the access.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Leave it or put it right?

Sealant won’t clear a blocked downpipe. We check the cause first and point you to the right trade if needed. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Gutter sealing in Strone: local notes

Strone is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Historic houses like Ardgowan House (about 5 miles south) are a reminder that the area around Strone has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

Rented homes near Gourock station change hands often, and a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. If you look after a building such as Dunoon Grammar School, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s.

How the visit works

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can get on with your day. Expect the work to take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Outside jobs in Strone need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. We clean out each joint.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. The sealant is applied and finished.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Ask for a quote

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will explain what’s involved.

Advice

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Boards that have decayed or split
  • A gutter length that has split
  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Garage door frames
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter joints
  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

When to call us in Strone

Sealant laid on a wet or dirty joint fails early. Rushed repairs often don’t last long for this reason.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • End caps that drip every time it rains
  • Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
  • Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
  • Wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint

If you live in an older home near Strone Church, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep.

What your quote should include

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
