Regrouting in Cove, Argyll and Bute

Problem with your tiled areas in Cove? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

Need regrouting in Cove?

What happens if it’s left?

It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often don’t match, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Doing the full area gives you one colour and sound joints throughout. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Doing several joints on one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Regrouting in Cove, done properly

We work across Cove, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you are dealing with crumbling grout between the tiles and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can put it right.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Cove homes and their sealant

Cove is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

Homes close to Craigrownie Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Cove is about 5 miles west of Helensburgh, in Argyll and Bute. We carry out regrouting for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Cove. 118 places in Argyll and Bute are on our list, from the larger towns to small villages. We also work in Glasgow, about 25 miles from Cove.

Every address in G84 is covered for regrouting, from the main roads to the quietest streets. Regrouting is available to properties on Knockderry Road, Shore Road and North Ailey Road and the roads around them. How it works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you. The visit itself generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

Advice

Signs you need regrouting in Cove

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, so we check the tiles before we start.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray

For landlords with property near Gourock station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

What your quote should include

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What product goes in the joint
  • Who turns up on the day
  • Is VAT in the price?

Choosing a sealant specialist

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.

Bathroom wall tiles

We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on the area. You can change the colour at the same time.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Don’t ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls

Check the corner silicone now and then. It’s the part that moves, so it’s generally the first thing to need attention.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Cove questions

Do you cover Cove for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Cove is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Do you work for landlords with property near Gourock station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, that’s common. The shower usually fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

How long does the job take?

That depends on the amount of work, but most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Regrouting alone isn’t the answer, and we’ll tell you before any work starts.

What does regrouting cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. To get one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

When can I use the shower again?

Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.

What sealant work can’t fix

We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
