Window & door mastic in Cove, Argyll and Bute
Problem with your window and door frames in Cove? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, with a one-year guarantee.
- Mastic that is falling out in pieces
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
- Cracked internal joints between frame and plaster
Window mastic in Cove, done properly
Every window and door frame has a gap around it, and mastic is what closes it. Once that seal fails, wind and rain find the gap. The old mastic is removed and the joint resealed with a flexible exterior sealant. If you’re dealing with gaps where the sill meets the wall and old mastic that has gone black or come away, we can help.
Older stone-built homes in Scotland often have sash and case or timber windows set in stone. The sealant has to suit the stone, which rules out acetoxy silicones that can mark or attack it.

What the job involves on each surface
Timber windows & doors
On period timber windows, traditional sand mastic is sometimes the better choice. We can talk through the options.
Aluminium frames
Aluminium moves with heat, and the frames are often slimmer than uPVC. A tidy bead in anthracite grey, black or a matching colour suits the frame.
Landlord and commercial work in Cove
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.
We also work for property managers and facilities teams. We can quote a run of properties together.

What affects the quote in Cove
There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The product the joint needs
- Mould in or behind the old joints
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.
What to tell us for a quote
When you call or email, it’s useful to know:
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- The type of property
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
Need a quote? Please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.
What we cannot put right
Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t solve:
- Worn gaskets, brush seals or a door that has dropped
- A sash or casement that will not close properly
- Soft or decayed wood in the frame
If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Why act early in Cove
Resealing frames is a short job: the visit takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door. Leave it until water is coming in and you may need plastering and decorating as well. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

FAQs for Cove
I let a flat near Gourock station. Can you help?
Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.
Is Cove within the area you cover?
Yes. Cove is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
What sealant do you use?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Should I try DIY first?
That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Do you hold any approvals?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
How long before the joint can be used?
It depends on the product and the temperature. Before we leave, we’ll tell you the cure time.
Can resealing stop a draught around my window?
Often, yes. The gap between frame and wall is a common source of draughts, and resealing inside and out closes it.
How the visit works
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door, including the tidy-up. Outside jobs in Cove need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
- Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
- A flexible exterior sealant is applied in a colour to suit the frame.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
Before we arrive
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Advice
Window mastic in Cove: local notes
Cove is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on the mastic around window and door frames, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Cove is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, which means the mastic around window and door frames has to cope with a lot of rain.
For an older house near a landmark such as Craigrownie Church, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame. If you let a flat or house near Gourock station, sound mastic around windows and doors keeps out the draughts and damp that tenants notice first.
