How the job changes by surface
Shower walls
Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.
Bathroom wall tiles
Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
Regrouting for homes and businesses in West Darlochan
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. You might go from white to grey or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. If you are dealing with corners filled with grout instead of silicone and gaps where the shower grout has gone, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
A bathroom in a place like West Darlochan gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after we’ve gone.

West Darlochan: your questions answered
Do you cover West Darlochan for regrouting?
Yes, West Darlochan is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Will you come out to West Darlochan?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
Normally we do both. Grout fills tile gaps and sealant handles the moving joints, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.
Will you leave a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Are you fully insured?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?
Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, because it fails. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new sealant bonds properly.
How the visit works
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room from start to finish. Outside jobs in West Darlochan need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Aftercare tips
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
Use a gentle cleaner on the grout and a soft brush. Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers, as they can break grout down.
Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.
Why act early in West Darlochan
Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We’ll tell you before we start, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Around West Darlochan, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.

Signs you need regrouting in West Darlochan
Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. Grout that was too wet, not packed in or cleaned off too hard tends to wash out early.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
Around West Darlochan, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

West Darlochan homes and their sealant
West Darlochan is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
For an older house near a landmark such as Kilchenzie Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.
