Regrouting in Clachan

Regrouting in Clachan

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you have grout that’s cracking and breaking up and gaps where the shower grout has gone, we can help, whatever the surface.

In and around a place like Clachan, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Why deal with it now?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout usually comes back. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Combining jobs into one visit is generally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.

Why us?

  • We are fully insured
  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • We leave the area clean and tidy

The process

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a place like Clachan, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Clachan questions

Do you cover Clachan for regrouting?

Yes, Clachan is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Clachan?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has normally failed. Regrouting alone is not the answer, and we will tell you before work begins.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, plenty of people choose to. Darker grout can hide marks and lighter grout gives a fresher look.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. We cover Clachan and the rest of Argyll and Bute, along with the rest of our area.

What sealant work can’t fix

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering

Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

For landlords and businesses

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll give you a quote.

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. Several sites can go on one quote.

What affects the quote in Clachan

You’ll get a clear quote before we start. It takes into account:

  • Access and height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • When we can work, for business premises

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The rough size of the job
  • Where the property is
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Need a quote? Please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

Regrouting in Clachan: local notes

Clachan is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Around Clachan, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. Whether the job is in Clachan itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Clachan is about 20 miles north of Helensburgh, in Argyll and Bute. From the centre of Clachan to the outskirts, we cover regrouting for every kind of property, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Clachan is one of 118 places in Argyll and Bute we cover.
