Regrouting for homes and businesses in Cairndow
Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. Common call-outs are for grout in a colour the owner wants to change and grout washed out of a shower, on wet rooms, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom wall tiles.
For a place like Cairndow, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Argyll and Bute.

What the job involves on each surface
Kitchen splashbacks
A splashback can be regrouted without touching the worktop. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.
Bathroom wall tiles
Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

DIY versus a professional finish
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
The process
When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Around Cairndow, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored near the joints
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

What regrouting looks like in Cairndow
Cairndow is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
Around Cairndow, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it. For an older house near a landmark such as Kilmorich Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What we can’t put right
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Aftercare tips
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Stick to that time, and go gently on the grout at first.
Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

How we quote for regrouting
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- Working hours on commercial sites
- The product the joint needs
- The number of rooms or windows
- How easy the joints are to reach
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
What to tell us for a quote
You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- If someone has resealed it before
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
If you’re in Cairndow and need regrouting, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and we will agree the price before any work begins.
