Trusted regrouting in Baile Mòr

Regrouting for homes and businesses in Baile Mòr

A bathroom with good tiles can still look worn if the grout has gone. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so nothing is ripped out. We work on kitchen splashbacks, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and grout washed out of a shower.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Baile Mòr work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Baile Mòr: your questions answered

Is Baile Mòr in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Baile Mòr is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Is regrouting in Baile Mòr guaranteed?

All our work, in Baile Mòr and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Should corners be grouted or sealed?

We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We’ll show you which ones at the start.

Why it’s worth doing now in Baile Mòr

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

What we’re called out for in Baile Mòr

Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room

If you live in an older home near Iona Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Before booking anyone

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • Is VAT in the price?

Choosing a sealant specialist

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Baile Mòr homes and their sealant

Baile Mòr is within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

Around Baile Mòr, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What affects the cost of regrouting

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so it’s usually the first thing to need attention.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough so early action pays.

What happens on the day

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

How to get a quote

When it is not the sealant

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
