How bathroom resealing works in PA66

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across PA66. We are ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are leaks into the floor or ceiling below and mouldy sealant that has gone black.

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it normally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

What affects the quote in PA66

There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The amount of work
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The product the joint needs

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Whether it has been sealed before

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.

Surface by surface

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms rely on sound joints at floor and wall junctions. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

What happens if it’s left?

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you don’t see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Without that preparation, the new bead will not last.

What your quote should include

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • Is VAT in the price?

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

PA66: your questions answered

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in PA66?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before any work starts.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We’re based in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we’re fully insured.
