Regrouting near Toward

About our regrouting in Toward

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We work on tiled floors, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked grout along the bath or tray and grout that’s cracking and breaking up.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are generally the first signs.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee in Toward and across Argyll and Bute.

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so sound grout really matters. We check for loose tiles before starting.

What happens if it’s left?

Cleaning products may brighten grout for a time, but mould that has got into grout usually comes back. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

When something else is needed

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms

Keeping the joints in good condition

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Wipe water off the walls when you are done

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.

Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.

How it works

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Toward depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Before we arrive

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

When to call us in Toward

Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that’s used every day.

Look out for these signs:

  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up

If you let a flat or house near Wemyss Bay station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Questions to ask before you book

Regrouting in Toward: local notes

Toward is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

For an older house near a landmark such as Toward Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Toward is about 9 miles south-west of Greenock, in Argyll and Bute. Toward gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Toward is one of 118 towns and villages in Argyll and Bute we cover. We also work in Glasgow, about 27 miles from Toward.

We work across PA23 for regrouting. We also cover Innellan (1 mile north-east), Craigmore (3 miles south-west), Ardbeg (3 miles west), Wemyss Bay (4 miles east) and Port Bannatyne (4 miles west). Further out, we also cover Helensburgh (14 miles north-east), Dunoon (6 miles north), Rothesay (4 miles south-west), Rhu (13 miles north-east) and Sandbank (8 miles north). If you’re somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning, so let us know when you get in touch.

Toward: your questions answered

Do you cover Toward for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Toward is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

I let a flat near Wemyss Bay station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Loose tiles need refixing before regrouting. We will point them out at the start.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

In most cases, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

Do I have to be there?

It depends on the job. Inside work needs someone to give us access, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.

What should I tell you?

Tell us what needs doing and where. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
