About our regrouting in Kames
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. You might go from white to grey, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. We work on bathroom floors, wet rooms and shower walls, and the jobs we see most are grout washed out of a shower and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease.
For a place like Kames, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Keep the fan on after showering
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
Have any tile that moves checked right away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.
Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Kames
Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll give you a quote.
What affects the cost of regrouting
There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- How many areas need sealing
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The size of the job
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- Where the property is
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- A few pictures by email, if you can
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Kames homes and their sealant
Kames is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
Whether the job is in Kames itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish. In and around Kames, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

The process
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and tidy away. It usually takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outdoor work around Kames depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Related advice
How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so sound grout really matters. We check for loose tiles before starting.
Kitchen splashbacks
We can regroute a splashback with the kitchen left in place. The joint along the worktop is resealed with silicone.
Why act early in Kames
It’s tempting to fill a few cracks yourself, but the patches often don’t match and the old grout carries on failing. Doing the full area gives you one colour and sound joints throughout. In an older home around Kames, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Yes, Kames is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.
Can you change the grout colour?
Yes, plenty of people choose to. A darker grout hides marks better, while lighter grout brightens a room.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we are fully insured.
How long does regrouting take?
Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
Do I need to be at home?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.
Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
