Regrouting for homes and businesses in Ardrishaig

Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. With regrouting, the tiles stay and only the grout is renewed, so there’s no stripping out and no new tiles to choose. If you have gaps where the shower grout has gone and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor, we can put it right.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Ardrishaig work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in Ardrishaig and everywhere else we cover.

Silicone being applied where a shower enclosure meets beige wall tiles

The process

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outside jobs in Ardrishaig need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Before we arrive

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints

Advice

FAQs for Ardrishaig

Is Ardrishaig within the area you cover?

Yes. Ardrishaig is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you do regrouting in Ardrishaig?

Yes, Ardrishaig is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear quote.

What sealant do you use?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we’ll explain our choice.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint rather than sitting on top.

Can I do it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

Our 12-month guarantee covers every job.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

When can I use the shower again?

We’ll tell you on the day. It depends on the grout and the sealant used so please stick to it.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • When we can work, for business premises

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

What to tell us for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.

Aftercare tips

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s generally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

Regrouting in Ardrishaig: local notes

Ardrishaig is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Lochgilphead High School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Around Ardrishaig, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

When it is not the sealant

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before work begins. It won’t solve:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.

Bathroom floors

Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.

Can I do it myself?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
