Our bathroom resealing service in PA31

A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. Common call-outs are for shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and leaking joints on a shower screen, across kitchen worktops & upstands, basins & vanity units and baths.

You do not need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included for a typical job.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.

What you’ll pay

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Bathrooms and kitchens across PA31

Across PA31, from Ceann Loch Gilb, Lochgilphead and Ardrishaig outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

Scottish weather is hard on outside joints, especially in the wetter west. That shapes the choice of sealant for jobs across PA31. Along the coast in PA31, window and wall joints facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, and that’s where sealant normally gives up first. The right product and careful preparation help it last.

Ceann Loch Gilb: Around Ceann Loch Gilb, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. Managing a site like Lochgilphead High School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Why deal with it now?

Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is usually all it takes. If something else is wrong, we’ll tell you.

What your quote should include

  • Who does the work, and how experienced they are
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • What preparation is included

Should I try it myself first?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

What sealant work cannot fix

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

What affects the quote in PA31

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • The size of the job
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • The type of property
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The rough size of the job

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location. Photos by email help us understand the job.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Wait for the cure time we give you

Clean the silicone with care: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in PA31

Will you leave a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Can new silicone go straight over the old?

No. Fresh silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. We always take the old sealant out completely.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or follow the cure time we give you.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels.
