Leave it or put it right?
Leaving a gap until a refurbishment comes round can mean years with it open. On its own, sealing it now is a small job and needn’t wait for anything else. Around Ceann Loch Gilb, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first.

Fire rated sealant in Ceann Loch Gilb
We can work through a building room by room or floor by floor, with each location and product recorded. That record is useful for your files and for whoever looks at the building next. If you’re dealing with joints picked up in a fire-stopping survey and seals cut through by electricians, plumbers or data installers, we can help, whatever the surface.
Commercial work around smaller Scottish places tends to mean hotels, guest houses, schools and halls rather than offices. All of them have washrooms, kitchens and fire-rated joints that need looking after.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Ceann Loch Gilb: your questions answered
Do you cover Ceann Loch Gilb for fire rated sealant?
Yes, Ceann Loch Gilb is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Is Ceann Loch Gilb within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Can tenants book the work?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
What information do you need?
A short description and the location. If we need more, we will ask.
Do you seal gaps around fire door frames?
Yes. We often seal open gaps hidden behind the architrave. Doors, seals and closers need a door specialist.
Is there any odour?
Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.
Do you have insurance?
Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.
What fire rating will the seal have?
We don’t issue ratings or certificates ourselves. What’s required is set by your assessor or designer, and the product’s tested details show what it achieves; we install to those details and record what we did.
What affects the cost of fire rated sealant
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- The product the joint needs
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.
What we need to know
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- The type of property
- The address or postcode of the job
- Whether it has been sealed before
For a quote, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We’ll give you a clear price before any work starts.
Signs you need fire rated sealant in Ceann Loch Gilb
In some buildings the gap was filled with the wrong thing in the first place: general-purpose foam, everyday silicone or caulk in a place that needed a tested fire seal. It looks sealed, but it is not fire-rated.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Fire seals that have cracked with movement
- Damaged fire sealant left by other trades
- New service routes left unsealed after building work
- Ordinary sealant used where a fire-rated product was needed

What the job involves on each surface
Plasterboard walls
Plasterboard partitions are common in flats, offices and conversions. The sealant has to be one tested in plasterboard.
Linear gaps
Some linear gaps have to cope with movement as well as fire. We choose a product and depth that suit the gap and the movement, following the tested detail.
What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:
- Problems with the door itself rather than the gap around the frame
- Issuing a fire rating or certificate for a building
- Construction that doesn’t provide fire resistance on its own
If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- Linear gaps
- Door frames
- Plasterboard & masonry
- Service penetrations
- Flats & HMOs
- Pipe & cable gaps
Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
