Bathroom Resealing in Kilmartin
Bathroom resealing for Kilmartin and the surrounding area: the right sealant, proper preparation and a neat finish. Call for a quick quote.
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.
Bathroom resealing in Kilmartin
We fill the bath before sealing it. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on baths, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting and mouldy sealant that has gone black.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in Kilmartin and everywhere else we cover.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- The amount of work
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.
What we need to know
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- A few photos by email, if you can
- The address or postcode of the job
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. Whenever you are ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Leave it or put it right?
A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it won’t bond. It lifts, traps water and grows mould behind it. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

Questions from Kilmartin
Do you cover smaller places like Kilmartin?
Yes, Kilmartin is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Kilmartin?
All our work, in Kilmartin and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.
Is it messy?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
What sealant do you use?
Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We’ll tell you what we’re using and why.
Where is Mr Mastic based?
Our base is Crawley, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
What information do you need?
The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few photos.
Looking after it afterwards
Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
- Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
- Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
- Dry worktop joints after washing up
Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.
There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.
Bathroom resealing around Kilmartin
Kilmartin is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
In the older streets around Kilmartin Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
Kilmartin is about 30 miles north-west of Greenock, in Argyll and Bute. Anywhere in PA31, we can carry out bathroom resealing at your property. Kilmartin is one of 118 places in Argyll and Bute we cover. There’s also a page for Glasgow, about 51 miles away.
We cover every part of the PA31 postcode area for bathroom resealing. If you are just outside Kilmartin, we cover Kilmichael Glassary (4 miles south-east), Ardfern (4 miles north-west), Bridgend (4 miles south), Cairnbaan (5 miles south) and Barravullin (5 miles north). Further out, we also cover Ceann Loch Gilb (7 miles south), Lochgilphead (7 miles south) and Ardrishaig (8 miles south). For island and remote addresses, a little more planning is needed.

Nearby you’ll also find Carnasserie Castle (1.2 miles north) and Kilmartin Museum (under half a mile south-west). For a walk, there’s Lochan Add and Druim an Achanarnich.
Do you need bathroom resealing in Kilmartin?
Plenty of failed sealant has been laid over the top of older sealant. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
- Two layers of silicone, both failing
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
- Water getting behind the bath panel
Around Kilmartin, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Questions to ask before you book
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- How much experience the applicator has
- How long to leave it before use
What the job involves on each surface
Baths
Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Filling the bath first allows for that movement.
Shower trays & enclosures
Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
How the visit works
Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. For a place like Kilmartin, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
- Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
- We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
