How we handle regrouting in Ardentinny

We work across Ardentinny, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you have discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles and floor grout that has worn and darkened, we can help, whatever the surface.

For a place like Ardentinny, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Ardentinny as everywhere else we work.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Common questions in Ardentinny

Is Ardentinny within the area you cover?

Yes, Ardentinny is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is Ardentinny in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Ardentinny is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We have worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we are fully insured.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.

How long should I wait before showering?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We’ll give you a time to follow at the end of the visit.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.

Aftercare tips

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Check the corner silicone now and then. Corners flex, so the sealant there will need renewing in time, long before the grout does.

Grout that is washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

What we are called out for in Ardentinny

Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down and showers that get daily use suffer most.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room

If you let a flat or house near Garelochhead station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Are they insured?
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • What product goes in the joint
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing

How the visit works

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Ardentinny need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

What regrouting looks like in Ardentinny

Ardentinny is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

For an older house near a landmark such as Ardentinny Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Ardentinny is about 8 miles west of Helensburgh, in Argyll and Bute. Landlord and commercial work in Ardentinny

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Surface by surface

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Bathroom wall tiles

We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on the area. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

What affects the quote in Ardentinny

You’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • The size of the job
  • Access and height
  • How many areas need sealing
  • When we can work, for business premises

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you’re ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
