Regrouting in Lochaline, Argyll and Bute
Problem with your tiled areas in Lochaline? We remove the old material, prepare the joints and seal them properly.
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
Regrouting in Lochaline, done properly
Before any work starts, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. We work on bathroom wall tiles, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked or crumbling grout lines and discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Lochaline work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Lochaline homes and their sealant
Lochaline is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
In and around Lochaline, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. In the older streets around Kiel Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Yes, Lochaline is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

When can I use the shower again?
Before we leave, we will tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before the shower is used.
How do I get a quote for regrouting in Lochaline?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. You will get a clear quote before work begins.
Do I need to be at home?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do. We can talk about working times when we quote.
Is the work guaranteed?
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job.
How long does the job take?
As a guide, most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Bigger jobs take longer.
Quotes for regrouting in Lochaline
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Whether the work is at height
- Working hours on commercial sites
- Which sealant suits the joint
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Helping us quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
A good description makes for an accurate quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email photos if that is easy.
The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. The work generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- Internal corners and edges are resealed.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

What we cannot put right
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’ll tell you before we start. Sealant won’t put right:
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
- A floor or wall that keeps moving
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before booking.
Joints and surfaces we work on
- Tiled floors
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
Keeping the joints in good condition
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.
Cracked grout does not stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.

What else we do in Lochaline
DIY versus a professional finish
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Why it’s worth doing now in Lochaline
Bleach can lighten stained grout for a while, but stains and mould that have soaked in tend to return. Replacing the grout and resealing the edges is a lasting fix. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.
