Regrouting in North Lanarkshire: how it works
Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. You might go from white to grey or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. We are often asked to deal with stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and grout in a colour the owner wants to change, across wet rooms, tiled floors and bathroom wall tiles.
A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.
What affects the price in North Lanarkshire
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Regrouting across North Lanarkshire: local notes
In North Lanarkshire, regrouting takes in flats, houses, rentals and businesses, in Motherwell, Cumbernauld and Coatbridge and well beyond. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
Our work covers the whole of Scotland, North Lanarkshire included. Longer journeys are planned in advance, and outdoor work around the weather.
Motherwell: Managing a site like Braidhurst High School? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Homes close to Dalziel High Parish Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Looking after it afterwards
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Check the corner silicone every few months
We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- Cracked or broken tiles
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
Why it fails
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout and stick to it. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, which is when replacing it makes sense.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Grout washed out of a shower
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
How we quote for regrouting
Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The size of the job
- The type of sealant required
- The number of rooms or windows
Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.
What to tell us for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.
North Lanarkshire questions
Will it make a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, it won’t last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.
Should I try DIY first?
That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
How long does the job take?
As a guide, most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Larger jobs naturally take longer, and we will say how long yours will take.
Where are you based?
We work from Crawley. We cover North Lanarkshire.
