Regrouting near Carfin

About our regrouting in Carfin

We work across Carfin, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, finished with new silicone at the edges. Common call-outs are for greasy, stained grout behind the hob and grout that makes sound tiles look old, across tiled floors, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls.

For a place like Carfin, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Common questions in Carfin

Do you cover Carfin for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Carfin is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Carfin station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.

How long does the job take?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.

What we do, step by step

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Outdoor work around Carfin depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

Related advice

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

What sealant work can’t fix

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms

What affects the quote in Carfin

Call for a quick quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • The product the joint needs
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • A few photos by email, if you can

Need a quote? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and open a path for water.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Tiles away from the shower stay drier but still stain and crack. New grout freshens them up.

Kitchen splashbacks

Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We renew the grout and the worktop sealant.

Why deal with it now?

If tiles are loose, regrouting alone is not the answer. We point that out first so you know what’s involved. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

What you get with us

  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • Fully insured
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
  • Neat joints and a tidy finish

Regrouting around Carfin

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For landlords with property near Carfin station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. Schools such as Taylor High School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
