Regrouting in Old Monkland
Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. We work on shower walls, bathroom wall tiles and tiled floors, and people most often call us about greasy, stained grout behind the hob and a grout colour that no longer suits the room.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Old Monkland work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Old Monkland
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
Rented homes near Kirkwood station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What the job involves on each surface
Shower walls
Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.
Bathroom floors
Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.
How the visit works
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room and we leave things clean and tidy. Outdoor work around Old Monkland depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
How to prepare
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Leave it or put it right?
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.

Common questions in Old Monkland
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Kirkwood station?
Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Is Old Monkland in your area for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Old Monkland is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.
Do you grout the corners?
Internal corners and edges are sealed with flexible silicone. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.
Where are you based?
Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Should I try DIY first?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?
Yes, that is common. The shower usually fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.
When something else is needed
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:
- Cracked or broken tiles
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
What we seal
- Tiled floors
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Shower walls
- Bathroom wall tiles

Aftercare tips
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:
- Check the corner silicone every few months
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and keep the room ventilated.
Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough so early action pays.
Common problems we fix in Old Monkland
Most grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Given time, it discolours and begins to break down, especially in a shower that’s used every day.
Look out for these signs:
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Splashback grout that has darkened
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Drumpark School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
