Regrouting for Wattston homes and businesses

What the job involves on each surface

Wet rooms

Regrouting a wet room helps keep water on the surface of the tiles. It cannot fix waterproofing below the tiles.

Bathroom wall tiles

We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on the area. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

Regrouting in Wattston, done properly

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Wattston are handled the same careful way. Common call-outs are for grout washed out of a shower and grout in corners that has cracked, across bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

How we quote for regrouting

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • The size of the job
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The rough size of the job
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Whether it has been sealed before

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Wattston

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

For landlords with property near Greenfaulds station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

How the visit works

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Wattston may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. The old grout comes out to a consistent depth, without damaging the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Related advice

Do you need regrouting in Wattston?

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. When black spots keep returning, the mould has usually got into the grout.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Crumbling grout between the tiles
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

Schools such as Airdrie Academy are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

FAQs for Wattston

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Greenfaulds station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Is Wattston in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Wattston is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

What sealant do you use?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, picked for each joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

We normally do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and wouldn’t keep water out.

Will regrouting fix loose tiles?

New grout cannot hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

Do you grout the corners?

We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.

Should I try DIY first?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Cracked or broken tiles

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

What we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout

Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it, so it’s worth acting early.
