Regrouting in Newmains
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We are often asked to deal with grout that makes sound tiles look old and grout washed out of a shower, on shower walls, tiled floors and bathroom wall tiles.
Bathrooms in smaller places like Newmains work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

The process
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Related advice
Do you need regrouting in Newmains?
Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down over time, leaving the joints sunken and rough.
If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Splashback grout that has darkened
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
Homes close to Coltness Memorial Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
Questions to ask before booking
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
- Which colour the sealant will be
- What the cure time is
What the job involves on each surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Splash areas around basins and baths stain first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.
Corners and edges
Corners flex as the building moves, so they get silicone, not grout.
Aftercare tips
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Check the corner silicone every few months
- Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Please follow it, and go gently on the grout at first.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.
Why act early in Newmains
Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, which turns a regrout into a retile. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Questions from Newmains
Can you do regrouting in Newmains?
Yes, Newmains is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
I let a flat near Cleland station. Can you help?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Where are you based?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Newmains and the rest of North Lanarkshire, along with the rest of our area.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes, plenty of people choose to. A darker grout hides marks better, while lighter grout brightens a room.
How long does the job take?
A typical job takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, including the preparation. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No. Fresh sealant doesn’t stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. It all has to come out first.
Should I try DIY first?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

About regrouting
Regrouting around Newmains
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
Rented homes near Cleland station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Coltness High School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
Newmains is about 2 miles north-east of Wishaw, in North Lanarkshire. Newmains gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Our North Lanarkshire coverage runs to 89 places, Newmains among them. For nearby work, see our Glasgow page, about 16 miles away.

When it isn’t the sealant
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- A leaking shower valve or waste
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
