Regrouting in Fife: how it works
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on shower walls, wet rooms and bathroom floors, and the jobs we see most are grout in a colour the owner wants to change and grout that’s cracking and breaking up.
There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the work takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area for a typical job.
- We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

What’s near Dunfermline
We work in homes and buildings around Dunfermline High School, Pittencrieff Park and St Leonard's Parish Church and the streets around them. The nearest railway station is Dunfermline City station, about 0.7 miles west. Nearby you will also find Queen Margaret Hospital (1 mile north) and Dunfermline Palace (1.2 miles west). For a walk, there’s Loch Fitty.
Where we work in Fife
Fife has homes of every age, old and new, with plenty of rented property in places like Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes. Regrouting keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.
We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and Fife is part of that. Longer journeys are planned in advance, and outdoor work around the weather. Along the coast in Fife, holiday lets and guest houses can have bathrooms in near-constant use, so their sealant and grout wear faster than most.
Dunfermline: Homes close to St Leonard's Parish Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. If you look after a building such as Dunfermline High School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
Can I do it myself?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
Letting agents often deal with us directly. Send the address, what’s needed and the access arrangements and we’ll give you a quote.
Why deal with it now?
If tiles are loose, regrouting alone isn’t the answer. We point that out first so you know what’s involved. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling.

How to look after the new joints
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window so the grout dries between uses.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.
What affects the quote in Fife
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether the work is at height
- The number and length of the joints
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
What to tell us for a quote
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The rough size of the job
- The problem you’ve noticed
- The type of property
