What affects the quote in Inverkeithing

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • How much there is to do
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, these details help:

  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Want a quote for regrouting? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before we start.

Regrouting in Inverkeithing

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, with silicone renewed in the corners. We work on bathroom floors, shower walls and bathroom wall tiles, and the jobs we see most are dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor and grout that makes sound tiles look old.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Inverkeithing questions

Do you take on hotel work around Inverkeithing?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Do you work for landlords with property near Inverkeithing station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

It can. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint, not just the surface.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Does someone need to be in?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Is there any odour?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Ventilation helps.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

Should I try DIY first?

That depends on the joint. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

What happens if it’s left?

Regrouting won’t help where tiles have come away. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

What sealant work can’t fix

Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. It won’t solve:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing

If you are not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks

What we do, step by step

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Around Inverkeithing, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

Advice

What we’re called out for in Inverkeithing

Movement behind the tiles cracks grout. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, so we check the tiles before work begins.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • A grout colour that no longer suits the room
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Inverkeithing High School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee
  • Is VAT in the price?
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • Who turns up on the day

If you live in an older home near St Peter's Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Rented homes near Inverkeithing station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom wall tiles

We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on the area. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We rake it out and regrout and renew the silicone at the edges.
