Questions from Abbeyview

Is Abbeyview within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Dunfermline Queen Margaret station?

Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will send you a clear quote.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, that’s common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Generally, yes. The corners and edges should be silicone and doing both at once leaves everything sound.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Abbeyview and the rest of Fife.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we’re fully insured too.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

About our regrouting in Abbeyview

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. You might go from white to grey, or the other way round. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. Common call-outs are for grout in corners that has cracked and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned, on bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and kitchen splashbacks.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.

How we quote for regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Access and height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Working hours on commercial sites

We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If someone has resealed it before

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that is easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will talk you through the work and give you a clear price.

What happens on the day

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on. Expect the work to take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Why act early in Abbeyview

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Do you need regrouting in Abbeyview?

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, which is why we check the tiles first.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Splashback grout that has darkened
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Grout in corners that has cracked

Managing a site like Dunfermline High School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Gaps here let water get behind the tiling.

Corners and edges

Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Abbeyview

Abbeyview is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

Rented homes near Dunfermline Queen Margaret station change hands often, and stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. For an older house near a landmark such as St Leonard's Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
