About our regrouting in Star
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. You might go from white to grey or back again. Just mention the colour you’d like when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. If you have grout in a colour the owner wants to change and stained grout that cleaning won’t shift, we can help.
For a place like Star, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Star as everywhere else we work.

Leave it or put it right?
Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. In a place like Star, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will talk you through it.

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple:
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Check the corner silicone every few months
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.
Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting won’t fix it so early action pays.
Star homes and their sealant
In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
Letting a property close to Markinch station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Surface by surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.
How it works
At the end, we look at the finished work together. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the amount of work. Around Star, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Advice
Do you need regrouting in Star?
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.
Common reasons people contact us are:
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Grout washed out of a shower
In and around Star, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
Questions to ask before booking
- How long to leave it before use
- What happens if the job turns out different
- What insurance they hold
- The length of the guarantee
Should I try it myself first?
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
Star: your questions answered
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Markinch station?
Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.
Do you cover Star for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Star is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Is it messy?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Is the work guaranteed?
All our work carries a 12-month guarantee, and we’re fully insured.
Should I try DIY first?
It depends on the job. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
What if some of my tiles are loose?
If tiles are loose, something behind them has normally failed. Regrouting alone isn’t the answer, and we will tell you before any work starts.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.
