Regrouting in Drumoig

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, others just the shower. Either way, tiled areas in Drumoig are handled the same careful way. We work on tiled floors, wet rooms and shower walls, and common reasons people get in touch are shower grout that has worn away and corners filled with grout instead of silicone.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Drumoig questions

Do you work for landlords with property near Leuchars station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Do you cover Drumoig for regrouting?

Yes, Drumoig is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

What should I tell you?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. Photos by email help too.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Regrouting will not fix loose tiles. We check the tiles first and tell you if any are loose or hollow, so you can decide what to do.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, every time. New silicone does not stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do I have to be there?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

How we quote for regrouting

We don’t publish a price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether the work is at height
  • How much there is to do

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Helping us quote

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The address or postcode of the job

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email pictures if that is easy.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

Drumoig homes and their sealant

Drumoig is within about 2 miles of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

For an older house near a landmark such as Lady Leng Memorial Chapel, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Drumoig is about 4 miles south of Broughty Ferry, in Fife. Drumoig gets the same service as everywhere we cover: the old material taken out, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee. Our Fife coverage runs to 133 places, and Drumoig is one of them.

Every address in KY16 is within our area for regrouting. We cover properties on Forgan Drive, Comerton Place and Drumoig Way and the roads around them. If you are just outside Drumoig, we cover Pickletillum (1 mile south-west), Newport-on-Tay (2 miles north-west), Wormit (3 miles west), Craigiebank (4 miles north) and Stobswell (4 miles north-west). Why it’s worth doing now in Drumoig

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

When to call us in Drumoig

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. When black spots keep returning, the mould has usually got into the grout.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Floor grout that will not come clean
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

Rented homes near Leuchars station change hands often, and clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

What your quote should include

  • What guarantee comes with the work
  • How the colour is chosen
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant

How it works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. Once we have agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Drumoig may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about any water getting in
