Trusted regrouting in Low Torry

Regrouting in Low Torry, done properly

We work across Low Torry, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. We work on bathroom wall tiles, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are corners filled with grout instead of silicone and dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee in Low Torry and across Fife.

Why act early in Low Torry

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and the room is out of use for longer. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you’re unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Do you need regrouting in Low Torry?

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.

The problems people usually mention when they call include:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Splashback grout that has darkened

If you look after a building such as Craigflower Preparatory School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • What product goes in the joint

Low Torry: your questions answered

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Low Torry?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Low Torry in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Low Torry is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Low Torry, along with the rest of our area.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.

Does someone need to be in?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We’ll show you which ones before any grout comes out.

Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?

Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.

When can I use the shower again?

You will get a clear time from us before we go. The grout and sealant both need to cure before the shower is used.

Different surfaces, different methods

Bathroom wall tiles

We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on size. You can change the colour at the same time.

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We rake it out and regrout, and reseal the corners.

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

Landlords and agents in Low Torry can book us as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Low Torry

Low Torry is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

For an older house near a landmark such as Torryburn Parish Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere like Low Torry may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Getting ready for the visit

How to look after the new joints

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.

Cracked grout does not stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.
