About bathroom resealing in the Isle of Wight
It is not only bathrooms. Worktop upstands, sink edges and splashback joints all take splashes every day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. We reseal them with a kitchen-suitable silicone, matched to the worktop where it’s on show. We are often asked to deal with gaps between the worktop and the wall and sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away, across shower trays & enclosures, sinks & splashbacks and baths.
There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen for a typical job.
- Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
- We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
- Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Local landmarks in Newport
We work in homes and buildings around Seaclose Park, Castle Inn and Island Innovation VI Form Campus, among other places. You will also find Christ The King College (0.6 miles south-west) and Nine Acres Primary School (less than half a mile south). Well-known places in the area include Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.8 miles north). Not far away are Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.
Bathrooms and kitchens across the Isle of Wight
Across the Isle of Wight, from Newport, Ryde and Cowes outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.
London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outdoor sealant still needs a dry day and clean surfaces, so outside work in the Isle of Wight is planned around the forecast. Parts of the Isle of Wight are on or near the coast, where wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt air are hard on outside sealant. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.
Newport: For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Nine Acres Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. In and around Newport, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
Why it fails
No sealant lasts indefinitely. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
- New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
- Black spots spreading through the bead
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
Why deal with it now?
Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but where mould is inside the silicone it normally comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again.
Questions to ask before booking
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- What guarantee comes with the work
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- Which colour the sealant will be
How the job changes by surface
Basins & vanity units
A vanity top has a joint along the wall and sometimes at the sides. If water gets in, the cabinet underneath can swell, so the joint is sealed in one unbroken line.
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.
What affects the quote in the Isle of Wight
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The number of rooms or windows
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Access and height
Doing several joints on one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.
What we need to know
To help us quote quickly, let us know:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Whether it has been sealed before
We do not publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we give you a clear quote for your job. To get started, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.
DIY versus a professional finish
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Questions from the Isle of Wight
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?
Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.
Will there be a smell?
That depends on the sealant. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.
Does the resealing come with a guarantee?
Yes, a one-year guarantee. Good ventilation and gentle cleaning help it last.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.
Do you work for letting agents?
Yes, we do. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.
Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?
No. Fresh silicone cannot stick to the old bead, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. We always take the old sealant out completely.
