Bathroom resealing in Shalfleet

The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on shower trays & enclosures, baths and sinks & splashbacks, and common reasons people get in touch are a joint torn by a bath that flexes and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting.

Being in a small place like Shalfleet makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Baths

Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone.

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

Bathroom resealing in Shalfleet: local notes

Shalfleet is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you look after a building such as Shalfleet Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. In the older streets around Church of St. Michael the Archangel, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Shalfleet is about 5 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Our applicators cover bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Shalfleet. We cover 125 towns and villages across the Isle of Wight. Our Southampton page covers work nearby (15 miles or so).

We cover every part of the PO30 postcode area for bathroom resealing. Local streets include Scotts Close, Warlands Lane and Fleet Way, and we cover them all. If you’re just outside Shalfleet, we cover Cranmore (1 mile north-west), Hamstead (1 mile north-west), Bouldnor (3 miles west), Yarmouth (3 miles west) and Thorns Beach (5 miles north). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (5 miles east), Ryde (11 miles east), Cowes (6 miles north-east), Sandown (12 miles east), Shanklin (12 miles south-east) and Ventnor (12 miles south-east). If you are somewhere remote, the job takes a little more planning.

Why act early in Shalfleet

You don’t need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes. If we find a deeper problem, you’ll hear it from us. Around Shalfleet, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

Questions from Shalfleet

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Shalfleet?

All our work, in Shalfleet and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Is Shalfleet within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

What should I tell you?

Let us know what needs doing and where, with pictures by email if possible. We will ask anything else we need to know.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No. Fresh silicone can’t stick to the old bead, so it peels away and hides mould and water. All the old sealant comes out first.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Generally after around 24 hours. You’ll get the exact cure time before we leave.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Where it’s needed by the sink, we use a food-safe sealant.

The process

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. Somewhere as small as Shalfleet, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Advice

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Give the silicone its full cure time

Check the sealant now and then. A small split or a corner lifting is easy to spot, and if anything looks wrong, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

There’s no need to wait for a full refurbishment. Sealant is a maintenance item, like the paint on a window frame, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

What sealant work cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.

What we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Wet rooms
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures

What affects the quote in Shalfleet

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • The product the joint needs
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How much there is to do

Doing several joints on one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits. You’ll get one clear quote for the whole job.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that’s easy.

DIY versus a professional finish

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
