Appley Bathroom Resealing
Bath, shower, basin, wet room, worktop and sink resealing for Appley, backed by a one-year guarantee. Ask us for a quote.
- A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
Leave it or put it right?
You don’t need a new bathroom because the sealant looks bad. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes. If we find a deeper problem, you will hear it from us. In an older home around Appley, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.
The cost depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.
What you get with us
- We agree the colour with you first
- We leave the area clean and tidy

Bathroom resealing in Appley
Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. We work on wet rooms, baths and basins & vanity units, and the jobs we see most are mouldy sealant that has gone black and a joint torn by a bath that flexes.
Around Appley, you’ll mostly find houses and bungalows, some older and some much newer. Bathrooms and kitchens here get the same daily wear as anywhere, and the sealant and grout show it first.
All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in the Isle of Wight.

What we can’t put right
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:
- A leaking waste, trap or valve
- Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we do, step by step
Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it usually takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Parking around Appley is generally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.
- We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
- A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Keeping the joints in good condition
Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:
- Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
- Squeegee the walls and tray after use
- Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
- Wait for the cure time we give you
Keep bottles and razors off the sealant line, as they hold water against it. A quick squeegee after showering helps the joint dry.
A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Resealing early stops it.
When to call us in Appley
Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. Fresh silicone can’t grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.
The problems people usually mention when they call are:
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
- Smears of silicone across the tiles
- Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
- Water escaping at the shower enclosure
Rented homes near Ryde St Johns Road station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Appley
Appley is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
Schools such as Oakfield Church of England Aided Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. If you live in an older home near St John's Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Should I try it myself first?
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
How we quote for bathroom resealing
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- The product the joint needs
- The amount of work
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Any working-time requirements on site
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re unsure, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.
What we need to know
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- The rough size of the job
- A few pictures by email, if you can
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will explain what’s involved and send you a clear quote.
