How we handle bathroom resealing in Puckpool

Homes in Puckpool have the same weak spots as anywhere else: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Each one is stripped, cleaned and dried before new silicone goes in. We work on sinks & splashbacks, wet rooms and baths, and people most often call us about water getting behind the bath panel and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal.

Somewhere as small as Puckpool, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Older walls and timber floors can move a little, and cracked grout and split sealant are often the first signs.

We guarantee the work for a year. If something isn’t right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Puckpool

Puckpool is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Puckpool has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

If you look after a building such as Oakfield Church of England Aided Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. In the older streets around St John's Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Puckpool is about 1 mile east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Whether you are in the middle of Puckpool or further out, bathroom resealing is available for homes and businesses alike. Our area takes in 125 places across the Isle of Wight. Our Portsmouth page covers work nearby.

Our applicators cover all of PO33 and PO34 for bathroom resealing. That includes homes and businesses on Appley Road, Appley Lane and Seldon Avenue and the roads around them. If you’re just outside Puckpool, we cover Appley (1 mile west), Spring Vale (1 mile east), Pondwell (1 mile south-east), Elmfield (1 mile south-west) and Oakfield (1 mile south-west). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (7 miles west), Cowes (8 miles west), Sandown (5 miles south), Shanklin (7 miles south), Ventnor (10 miles south) and East Cowes (7 miles west). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so please mention your location when you ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Why it’s worth doing now in Puckpool

Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which matters if you’re letting a property or selling it. A smeared, uneven DIY bead does the opposite. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Puckpool, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

What happens on the day

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Puckpool needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

Advice

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the joints between floor and walls take standing water. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Puckpool?

Silicone does not last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall

Letting a property close to Ryde St Johns Road station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

What sealant work cannot fix

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will say what we think before booking.

Common questions in Puckpool

Do you work for landlords with property near Ryde St Johns Road station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before any work starts.

Do you cover smaller places like Puckpool?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No, never. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we are fully insured too.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

What should I tell you?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. After that, simply ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Will it make a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Do not leave water standing on kitchen joints
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, which is usually around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Water gets behind the upstand and into the edge of a laminate worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.
