Bathroom resealing in Shalcombe

A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. Typical jobs include gaps where the bath or tray has moved and smears of silicone across the tiles, on kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and sinks & splashbacks.

Being in a small place like Shalcombe makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

What the job involves on each surface

Basins & vanity units

Basin joints are short and close to eye level: so we keep the line tidy and even, finished in a colour that suits the basin.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Water behind a laminate worktop can make the edge swell. A continuous bead along the back keeps water out, as long as the worktop itself is firmly fixed.

What sealant work cannot fix

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks

Should I try it myself first?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

Looking after it afterwards

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth

Clean the silicone with care: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

Small signs come before a leak: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. If you spot one, it’s time to reseal.

What bathroom resealing looks like in Shalcombe

Shalcombe is within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For an older house near a landmark such as St. Mary's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Shalcombe is about 6 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Shalcombe gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Across the Isle of Wight, we cover 125 places, Shalcombe among them. There’s also a page for Southampton, about 17 miles away.

Postcode districts we cover here for bathroom resealing: PO41. We also cover Dunsbury (1 mile south-west), Hulverstone (1 mile south), Brook (1 mile south-west), Newbridge (1 mile north-east) and Wellow (1 mile north). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (6 miles east), Ryde (13 miles east), Cowes (8 miles north-east), Sandown (12 miles east), Shanklin (12 miles east) and Ventnor (11 miles south-east). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so please mention your location when you call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers in most cases. In a small place like Shalcombe, access is normally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Preparing for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Shalcombe

Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants aren’t designed for a joint that is wet every day, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. Wet areas call for a sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Water getting behind the bath panel

In and around Shalcombe, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What your quote should include

  • Whether all the old sealant comes out first
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • What the cure time is
  • How much experience the applicator has

10 questions to ask before booking

Shalcombe: your questions answered

Can you do bathroom resealing in Shalcombe?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Shalcombe is part of that. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Is there a guarantee on bathroom resealing in Shalcombe?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Shalcombe?

We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

Most people choose white or clear, and other colours are available to suit tiles, trays and worktops. Tell us what you’d like when you get in touch.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Where the job is, what the problem is and roughly how big it is. Photos by email help too.

Should I try DIY first?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Does someone need to be in?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.
