About our bathroom resealing in Niton

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through into walls, panels and floors. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We work on kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are a bead that has pulled away from the tiles and black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off.

Around Niton, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in the Isle of Wight.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again.

What sealant work cannot fix

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)
  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

How the visit works

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before we start. Most jobs take a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. For a village or hamlet like Niton, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Before we arrive

  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, including a food-safe sealant where that is needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

The joint between worktop and wall takes splashes, crumbs and cleaning sprays. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows, so the line doesn’t stand out.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Give the silicone its full cure time

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the bead dries out between uses.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Niton

With age, silicone loses its stretch. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Hot pans and harsh cleaners don’t help.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Water getting behind the bath panel
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal

In the older streets around Church of St. John the Baptist, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What to look for in a quote

  • How the joint is cleaned and prepared
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How long to leave it before use
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

Bathroom resealing in Niton: local notes

Niton is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Niton Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The size of the job
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The type of sealant required

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
