About bathroom resealing in Aberdeen

A shower joint gets soaked every day. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. We work on shower trays & enclosures, baths and kitchen worktops & upstands, and the jobs we see most are a reseal done over the top of the old bead and water getting behind the kitchen upstand.

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Where we work in Aberdeen

From Rosemount, Berryden and Ferryhill to its smaller places, homes across Aberdeen have bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Sealant and grout wear out in all of them, whether it’s a family bathroom, a rented flat or a hotel en suite.

Our work covers the whole of Scotland, Aberdeen included. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast. Aberdeen includes coastal places, where outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland. Walls facing the sea are generally the first to need attention.

Aberdeen: If you let a flat or house near Aberdeen station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for. Homes close to Rutherford Church And Church Hall include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Surface by surface

Basins & vanity units

A vanity top has a joint along the wall and sometimes at the sides. If water gets in, the cabinet underneath can swell, so a neat, continuous bead matters.

Shower trays & enclosures

The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, following the enclosure maker’s guidance on which side to seal.

What we’re called out for in Aberdeen

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting

When something else is needed

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Aberdeen

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How many areas need sealing

We do not show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote.

Helping us quote

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The address or postcode of the job

For a quote, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the location and a short description of the problem. We will give you a clear price before any work starts.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
