Peterculter Bathroom Resealing

Baths, showers and worktops in Peterculter need attention? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

  • Two layers of silicone, both failing
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray

Bathroom resealing in Peterculter, done properly

Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback get wet every single day, and water behind a laminate worktop can make it swell. We reseal them with a kitchen-suitable silicone, matched to the worktop where it’s on show. We’re often asked to deal with smears of silicone across the tiles and gaps between the worktop and the wall, on baths, basins & vanity units and sinks & splashbacks.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Peterculter work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Leave it or put it right?

Sorting it now is quick: it takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Wait for a leak and you may be looking at panels off, drying out and redecorating too. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

For landlords and businesses

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. We can quote a run of properties together.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

What we are called out for in Peterculter

Baths and trays move. An acrylic bath flexes under load, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen

Homes close to Kelman Memorial Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What your quote should include

  • How the colour is chosen
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • How long to leave it before use
  • How long the guarantee is

10 questions to ask before booking

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The type of sealant required

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it’s useful to know:

  • How we’d reach the joints
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it has been sealed before

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand, and we will come back to you with a quote.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. It normally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Around Peterculter, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
  4. A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

How to get a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email pictures if that is easy.

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Bathroom resealing in Peterculter: local notes

Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Aberdeen, the Granite City, has plenty of granite tenements, where, as in any flat, a failed seal can reach the flat below.

If you look after a building such as Culter School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Questions from Peterculter

Can you do bathroom resealing in Peterculter?

Yes, Peterculter is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in Peterculter?

All our work, in Peterculter and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Is there any odour?

There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, and it’s something we never do.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

Is it worth trying it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.
