Bathroom resealing across AB14: what to expect
The bead of silicone around a bath, tray or worktop is what keeps water out of the gaps. Once it cracks or goes mouldy, water starts to find its way through. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We are often asked to deal with a joint torn by a bath that flexes and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal, across kitchen worktops & upstands, shower trays & enclosures and wet rooms.
Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, normally around 24 hours.
How we quote
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

Getting a quote
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you’re ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Around Peterculter
Around Peterculter, our work takes us to homes and buildings near The Den and the Glen, Kelman Memorial Church and Culter School and the streets around them. A little further out are Blairs College (2.8 miles east) and Drum Castle (2.7 miles west). For a walk, there’s Beans Hill and Murtle Dam.
Bathrooms and kitchens across AB14
AB14 has homes of every age, old and new, and in places like Peterculter there’s plenty of rented property too. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.
We work across all of Scotland, from the cities to the islands, and AB14 is part of that. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast.
Peterculter: Managing a site like Culter School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. If you live in an older home near Kelman Memorial Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
Signs you need bathroom resealing
Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out give mould all the damp it needs, and once it has grown into the bead, cleaning rarely gets it out.
Common reasons people contact us include:
- Gaps between the worktop and the wall
- Mouldy sealant that has gone black
- Water getting behind the bath panel
- Failed sealant on the screen profile
Can I do it myself?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Different surfaces, different methods
Baths
A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point.
Sinks & splashbacks
Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.
How we quote for bathroom resealing
We don’t publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- The amount of work
- Any working-time requirements on site
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
What we need to know
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- A few pictures by email, if you can
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- If someone has resealed it before
- How we’d reach the joints
There’s no standard price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To arrange one, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
What happens if it’s left?
Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but where mould is inside the silicone it usually comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again.
What your quote should include
- Are they insured?
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Whether VAT is included
- What happens if the job turns out different
Common questions in AB14
Does someone need to be in?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.
My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?
Yes. Mould inside the bead rarely cleans out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.
How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?
After around 24 hours in most cases. We’ll tell you the cure time for the product we used.
Do you do kitchens as well as bathrooms?
Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Where it’s needed by the sink, we use a food-safe sealant.
What should I tell you?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Can new silicone go straight over the old?
No, never. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.
How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in AB14?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote and we’ll talk you through it.
