Bieldside: your questions answered

Can you do bathroom resealing in Bieldside?

Yes, Bieldside is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

I let a flat near Aberdeen station. Can you help?

Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, with a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows.

Does someone need to be in?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No, and it’s one of the main reasons reseals fail. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.

What should I tell you?

A short description and the location. If we need more, we’ll ask.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.

Should I try DIY first?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Bathroom resealing in Bieldside

A bead that has gone black, split or come away shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. A photo of the joints helps when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and you’ll get a clear quote for bathroom resealing in Bieldside. Common call-outs are for smears of silicone across the tiles and black spots spreading through the bead, on sinks & splashbacks, shower trays & enclosures and kitchen worktops & upstands.

Scotland’s cities have a lot of flats, from sandstone or granite tenements to modern blocks, as well as houses in the suburbs. Scottish water is generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas, but mould still grows into sealant and grout in a steamy bathroom.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Why act early in Bieldside

Dealing with sealant early is a short job: it takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Left until water gets through, the job can grow to lifting panels, drying out and decorating. In a Scottish city tenement, failed sealant affects more than one flat: water can reach the flat below, and gaps in shared walls or fire-stopping affect the whole stair.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Surface by surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

Basins & vanity units

On a basin, neatness shows: the bead is right in front of you, so it’s tooled cleanly and evenly, in white, clear or a colour to suit.

Bathroom resealing around Bieldside

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. Aberdeen, the Granite City, has plenty of granite tenements, and in a tenement, a failed seal can reach the flat below.

Schools such as Cults Academy are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Rented homes near Aberdeen station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

You’ll get a clear quote before we start. It takes into account:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Any mould that needs treating

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The type of property
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • How we’d reach the joints

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work and send you a clear quote.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

How it works

Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it usually takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Many homes in Scotland’s cities are tenement flats, reached through a shared close and up a common stair. In Bieldside, it helps to know the floor, the door entry arrangements and the nearest parking.

  1. We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Do you need bathroom resealing in Bieldside?

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt

In the older streets around Cults West Parish Church, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is
  • What preparation is included
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
