Regrouting in Aberdeen: how it works
Most regrouting jobs include resealing too. Grout is for the joints between tiles, but corners and edges move, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. We work on wet rooms, bathroom floors and bathroom wall tiles, and common reasons people get in touch are splashback grout that has darkened and floor grout that won’t come clean.
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. For most jobs that takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area and we leave things clean and tidy.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Bathrooms and kitchens across Aberdeen
In Aberdeen, regrouting takes in flats, houses, rentals and businesses, in Rosemount, Berryden and Ferryhill and well beyond. The method is the same everywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
Our work covers the whole of Scotland, Aberdeen included. Journeys are planned ahead, and outside jobs are booked around the forecast. Along the coast in Aberdeen, holiday lets and guest houses can have bathrooms in near-constant use, so their sealant and grout wear faster than most, and the weather is hard on the outside too.
Aberdeen: For an older house near a landmark such as Rutherford Church And Church Hall, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. If you let a flat or house near Aberdeen station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.
When something else is needed
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
Surface by surface
Corners and edges
Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.
Shower walls
A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It usually fails first.
Why it fails
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.
People generally contact us after spotting one of these:
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Grout washed out of a shower
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
Why act early?
New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly.

How to look after the new joints
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.
Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.
Aberdeen: your questions answered
Does someone need to be in?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
Do you grout the corners?
We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in a moving joint soon cracks.
Will regrouting fix loose tiles?
If tiles are loose, something behind them has usually failed. Regrouting alone isn’t the answer and we’ll say so before going ahead.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
Yes, in most cases. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and wouldn’t keep water out.
Can you regrout just the shower?
Yes, we often do. The shower normally fails first, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
