Regrouting near Milltimber

What we do, step by step

On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outside jobs in Milltimber need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Preparing for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

About our regrouting in Milltimber

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks or back again. Just mention the colour you’d like when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. We work on bathroom wall tiles, tiled floors and shower walls, and the jobs we see most are kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and grout in corners that has cracked.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are usually the first signs.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

What affects the cost of regrouting

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

Combining jobs into one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will give you a clear price for the lot.

What to tell us for a quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Your questions about regrouting in Milltimber

Can you do regrouting in Milltimber?

Yes, Milltimber is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Milltimber?

Yes, Milltimber is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What do you put in the joint?

The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.

Will it make a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we’re done.

When can I use the shower again?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We’ll tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

How long will you be here?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Regrouting won’t fix loose tiles. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting so you know where you stand.

Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black. Aberdeen, the Granite City, has plenty of granite tenements, and in a tenement, a failed seal can reach the flat below.

How the job changes by surface

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can do part of a wall or all of it.

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It gets worn and dirty.

When it isn’t the sealant

We will not take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What we are called out for in Milltimber

Grout is porous, so water, soap and grime soak into it. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble, especially in a shower that is used every day.

These are the problems we’re asked about most:

  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Shower grout that has worn away

Schools such as International School of Aberdeen are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is included
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • How the colour is chosen
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

Our hiring checklist

Looking after it afterwards

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it so early action pays.
