Regrouting in Danestone
Professional regrouting in and around Danestone, with every bit of old sealant taken out first and a one-year guarantee.
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Grout in corners that has cracked
- Stained grout that cleaning will not shift
How we handle regrouting in Danestone
A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. You might go from white to grey or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. If you’re dealing with good tiles let down by tired grout and crumbling grout between the tiles, we can put it right.
Danestone is in one of Scotland’s four big cities, where many tenement bathrooms were fitted into rooms that weren’t built for them. Space is tight and ventilation can be poor, and steam with nowhere to go is what turns sealant black and grout grey.
There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
How we quote for regrouting
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The size of the job
- When we can work, for business premises
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first.
What to tell us for a quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- The address or postcode of the job
Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll talk you through the work before giving you a price.
What the job involves on each surface
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. Floor-to-wall and bath joints are sealed, not grouted.
Shower walls
Shower walls get wet every day, so grout there works hardest. It normally fails first.
Why deal with it now?
If tiles are loose, regrouting alone isn’t the answer. We will tell you before work begins, so you can decide what to do. On sound tiles, regrouting avoids the upheaval of a retile. Scottish rain finds any gap around a frame or wall joint, and in Danestone, damp can spread through stone and plaster before anyone sees it.
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll talk you through it.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Danestone
Danestone is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Schools such as Bridge of Don Academy are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Dyce station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Homes close to Danestone Congregational Church include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

What we do, step by step
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we’ll take it from there. The work itself takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a Scottish city, a lot of jobs are in tenement flats, up a common stair from a shared close. In Danestone, it helps to know the floor, the door entry arrangements and the nearest parking.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Let us know about parking restrictions
- Move anything stored near the joints

Keeping the joints in good condition
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Have loose tiles looked at early
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
Danestone questions
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Dyce station?
Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.
Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Danestone?
Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.
Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?
New grout can’t hold loose tiles in place. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting, so you can decide what to do.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
We normally do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and wouldn’t keep water out.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.
Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?
Yes. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint, not just the surface.
Should I try DIY first?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
