Regrouting for homes and businesses in Portlethen

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have shower grout that has worn away and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean, we can help, whatever the surface.

Being further from a city does not change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after we have gone.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too in Portlethen and across Aberdeen. We can quote a run of properties together, and we are fully insured.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can be quoted together.

What happens on the day

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Outdoor work around Portlethen depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Aftercare tips

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
  • Give the walls a quick rinse after use
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly

Before we leave, you will know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and avoid scrubbing the new grout hard for the first few days.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

What we cannot put right

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind
  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms

  • Kitchen splashbacks

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

Why it’s worth doing now in Portlethen

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Around Portlethen, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

How the job changes by surface

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we’re there, so everything is renewed at once.

Bathroom floors

Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We check the tiles before regrouting.

Portlethen homes and their sealant

Portlethen is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

Managing a site like Portlethen Primary School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes. Letting a property close to Portlethen station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. Homes close to Portlethen Parish Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Common questions in Portlethen

Do you cover Portlethen for regrouting?

Yes, Portlethen is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Will you come out to Portlethen?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

When can I use the shower again?

We give you a time before we leave. The wait depends on the products and conditions so please stick to it.

Where are you based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Portlethen.

Should I try DIY first?

It depends on the job. High-level, external movement and fire-rated joints are professional jobs.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes. Many jobs are just the shower walls, or the area where the grout has gone.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

We use silicone in corners and along edges. Grout in those joints cracks as the building moves.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.
