Regrouting in Blackburn, Aberdeen
Problem with your tiled areas in Blackburn? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
- Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
- Grout washed out of a shower
How we handle regrouting in Blackburn
Grout is the filler between your tiles, and sealant is what goes along the bath, tray or worktop. Once grout starts to crack or wash away, water has a way in behind the tiling. We rake it out and replace it, then reseal the corners and edges. If you have grout in a colour the owner wants to change and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can put it right.
For a place like Blackburn, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.
Every job is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Aberdeen.

The process
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room from start to finish. Outside jobs in Blackburn need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Honest limits
Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- A leaking wet room membrane
- Cracked or broken tiles
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we seal
- Bathroom floors
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen splashbacks
- Tiled floors
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Shower walls
How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it cures fully. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and let the room air.
Fixing grout early is a small job. Left, the same problem can let water through so it’s worth dealing with as soon as you spot it.
What regrouting looks like in Blackburn
Aberdeen, the Granite City, has plenty of granite tenements, and in a tenement, a failed seal can reach the flat below. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
If you let a flat or house near Kintore station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Blackburn questions
Is Blackburn within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Do you cover Blackburn for regrouting?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Blackburn is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured.
Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?
Yes. With the old grout removed, the new colour fills the whole joint rather than sitting on top.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new bead soon lifts. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Can I do it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
Is the work guaranteed?
Our 12-month guarantee covers every job.
How long will you be here?
Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, including the preparation. We’ll confirm how long when we quote.
Do you need regrouting in Blackburn?
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that is hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.
Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
- Grout that makes sound tiles look old
- Old grout in a dated colour
- Shower grout that has worn away
In and around Blackburn, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
What to look for in a quote

How we quote for regrouting
You will get a clear quote before we start. It’s based on:
- Any mould that needs treating
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.
Asking for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Whether it has been sealed before
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- How we’d reach the joints
- Where the job is, and your postcode
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add pictures by email if you can.
What else we do in Blackburn
DIY versus a professional finish
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
Leave it or put it right?
With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and often a few days without a shower. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Around Blackburn, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we will explain what it covers.
