About regrouting in Buckinghamshire
Regrouting is generally paired with resealing. Grout belongs between tiles, but internal corners and edges flex, so they’re sealed with silicone rather than grout. Renewing both together means nothing is left half-done. Typical jobs include floor grout that won’t come clean and crumbling grout between the tiles, across tiled floors, bathroom floors and wet rooms.
There’s no need to move everything out, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room for a typical job.
- First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
- Fresh grout goes into the joints and the tile faces are wiped clean.
- We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

Around Aylesbury
Typical jobs here are in homes near Buckinghamshire UTC, Stocklake Park Community School and The Derby Arms Public House, among other places. You will also find Bearbrook Combined School (0.5 miles west) and Church of St Mary (less than half a mile north). Aylesbury has its own railway station: Aylesbury station. Well-known places in the area include Roald Dahl Children's Gallery (under half a mile east) and Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital (within half a mile north). For a walk, there’s Coombe Hill.
Bathrooms and kitchens across Buckinghamshire
Homes across Buckinghamshire range from older properties to new builds, with plenty of rented property in places like Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Chesham. Sound sealant and clean grout keep water out and rooms looking cared for.
Hard water across most of the South East leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. Whatever the job in Buckinghamshire, surfaces are cleaned back properly before new sealant goes in.
Aylesbury: In the older streets around Church of St Mary, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Rented homes near Aylesbury station change hands often, and a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
Why deal with it now?
Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Dealing with it now keeps it small.
Questions to ask before you book
- Are they insured?
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Whether you can choose the colour
- What the cure time is
Keeping the joints in good condition
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
- Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
- Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well so the grout dries between uses.
Once grout cracks, it tends to get worse. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away, so regrouting early can save a retile.
How the job changes by surface
Wet rooms
Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We renew both.
Kitchen splashbacks
Grout behind the hob and sink works hard. We renew the grout and the worktop sealant.
What we’re called out for in Buckinghamshire
Soap scum and limescale build up on grout that’s hard to shift. The grout beneath can stain and weaken, and at that point, new grout is the better answer.
The most common problems we see are:
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Cracked grout along the bath or tray
- Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned
- Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
What affects the cost of regrouting
Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:
- The size of the job
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Access and height
- When we can work, for business premises
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.
Asking for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Roughly how big the job is
If you are in Buckinghamshire and need regrouting, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you will get a clear quote before we start.
Common questions in Buckinghamshire
What if some of my tiles are loose?
Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Regrouting alone is not the answer, and we will tell you before work begins.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes, that’s common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.
Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?
Most of the time, yes. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and include it in your quote.
Do you guarantee regrouting?
Our 12-month guarantee covers every job.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.
Where do you work from?
We are based in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
